Following on from the global success of predecessor ‘Monument’, Grand Magus bite back delivering an epic masterpiece of Nordic proportions. ‘Wolf’s Return’ sees Stockholm’s heaviest return to the battleground once more.
Brandishing an indefensible artillery of cumbersome metal anthems, it is a stunning statement of intent, far surpassing all previous output. This, the bands third album for Rise Above Records, marks their next logical evolutionary step, from heavy Doom Rock to full on Metal Assault!
Recorded over the early winter months of 2005, in Resync Studio, Stockholm by the enigmatic Oneman, ‘Wolf’s Return’ displays a stunning sense of dynamic determination and conviction within the disciplined structures and layers of its masterful compositions.
Fusing Doom with classic Heavy Metal, Grand Magus has created something more frightfully contemporary, serving as testament to the talents of main man and mastermind, JB. Wielding his guitar like a slaying sword, mercilessly tearing out lead weight riffs, he is a man in possession of a vocal style so full of fire it could melt the ice caps!
Outside of his main duties with Grand Magus, JB stands alongside fellow Swede & guitarist Mike Amott in his other role, providing his soulful wail to legendary hard rock ensemble, Spiritual Beggars. His talents were exceptionally noted in Japan where he was nominated 6th best international vocalist in the annual Burrn! Reader’s poll.
Wolf’s Return is an album brimming enigmatic tales of personal vengeance combined with the ancient mythology of Scandinavia, a subject very close to the heart of the man in charge of the crusade. Backing JB’s scathing rifferama and vision is the mountain crushing rhythm section of Fox & Frederik.
With songs and conviction this heavy, there is NO band around that conveys the spirit of heavy metal so purely as Grand Magus.
