Australia’s heaviest Doom merchants, Pod People hail from the nation’s seemingly ghostlike capital city of Canberra, home to such illustrious landmarks as Parliament House and the Australian War Memorial.
Lurking within shadows of the cities barren landscape and uninspiring corporate buildings is a deep and heavy rumbling of something altogether more sinister just waiting to be heard.
Hammering and pummeling monstrous slabs of groove ridden doom since their low end beginnings of the early 90’s, Pod People have pushed their death-tinged Sabbath rifferama - meets Kyuss thunder into a monstrous groove machine that simply crushes all in their path.
After releasing three relatively successful EPs and considered to be at the forefront of the Australian heavy music scene both domestically and internationally Pod People have toured their native country with the likes of Brutal Truth, Entombed & Cathedral amongst others.
It was, in fact, whilst on tour with Cathedral that front man and head of Rise Above Records, Lee Dorrian witnessed the bands insistent and cumbersome bludgeon.
He could not ignore the relentless power of Doom that turned stages to ash before his very eyes and sought license to release their ten ton truck of sludge anthems out side of Australia.
With the band's debut full length opus, Doom Saloon, The Pods showcase a variety of underground leanings made fresh by a genuine feeling of enthusiasm and commitment to the cause.
Mid-tempo planet mashers like ‘Filling The Void’ and ‘King Tide’ crush and groove at the same time with both guitarists and vocalist Brad alternating between monster sounds and melodies while the immense bottom-feeding mega doom marathon of ‘Subterranean’ slowly uncoils itself with an odyssey riffs which seem to lurch out for entities at a time.
Doom Saloon is an album which touches base with all the right elements of stoner-doom, doom-death, death-rock and psychedelia, before bulldozing into its own path of oblivion with heavy as fuck DOOM, DOOM & more unrelenting DOOM!
